I just heard that one of my early readers, Dustin Moore, 14, of Greene, Maine, attended a "Leadership in Training" camp at Camp Susan Curtis this past summer. A junior camp counselor, Dustin selected "Billy Boy, the Sunday Soldier of the 17th Maine" for the evening's campfire read. He said his 8-9 year-olds were an attentive and enthusiastic audience. Thanks, Dustin, and have a good football season!

If you're in the neighborhood........I will be doing a book signing of Billy Boy at Willowbrook, a 19th century village in Newfield, Maine on Saturday, September 19th, from 10:00 - 4:00 pm. I'm accompanying the Third Maine Regiment reenactors, Company A. The 3rd Maine Regiment Volunteer Infantry has acquired a reputation for historical authenticity both within and outside of the state. During their 5th annual visit to Willowbrook, their infantry will demonstrate mid-19th century military drill, their musicians will provide displays of period fife and drum pieces, and their surgeon will present excellent impressions of Civil War medical care. A great living history day!
